Sialkot meet Karachi in Level-II final

KARACHI: Sialkot will try to regain the National Inter-Region Level-II Cricket Championship title, which they won in its inaugural season in 2004-05, as they encounter Karachi in the four-day final of the 2007-08 event, that starts at Jinnah Stadium Gujranwala today (Wednesday) and will be played until December 15.

In the semifinals, played from December 6 to 8, Karachi took the all-important first innings lead against Faisalabad while Sialkot defeated Hyderabad by the convincing margin of an innings and two runs.

The two umpires nominated for the tournament’s final are Javed Ashraf and Akmal Hayat. Nadeem Arshad will serve as the match referee while Sohail Hasan Zaidi has been appointed as the official scorer.

A total prize money purse of Rs 350,000 will be at stake on the occasion of the final. The winning team will be handed over the trophy and Rs 200,000 with Rs 100,000 going to the runners-up.
